What’s the Point?
As an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer, I draw much of my creative inspiration from time spent beneath the surface. From the cold, kelp-laced waters of the West Coast to the warm, crystalline seas of the tropics, each dive offers intimate encounters with marine life that later resurface in my underwater painting series.
I am particularly captivated by the sensory experience of being submerged — the hush of depth, the filtered light, the slow choreography of drifting forms. To evoke this immersive, dreamlike atmosphere, I employ pointillism. Through small dots of color, I recreate the ocean’s visual texture, where light fractures, currents shift, and suspended particles soften the edges of perception without diminishing their beauty.
In this way, my paintings mirror the lived experience of diving: a world that is fluid, luminous, and perpetually in motion — where clarity yields to sensation, and everything exists in a delicate state of suspension.
